Children's Library Services

The Children’s Department is divided into two distinct areas: Easy Readers (infant through Grade 1) & Junior Readers (Grades 2 – 7).

The Easy Reader area is a “castle tower” complete with original art from favorite stories. Books include basic readers, storybooks, fairy tales, board books, nonfiction, and Spanish language books. Beginning chapter books may be found here as well. The tower offers games, puzzles, puppets & stuffed animals, dinosaurs, a train table, and a large rocker. The staff is equipped to check books out for you directly in the Easy Reader room, although we do ask that you return your items at the main front desk.

The Children's areas are filled with original artwork from classic books, old & new. Resources include magazines, a children’s reference center, and study tables. Children's Librarian, Rhonda Moss, & her assistant, Shanavia Reed, provide multiple programs for children each week as well as special annual events & a summer reading program.

Fiction, Nonfiction, and Easy Reader books have their Accelerated Reading Levels indicated on the spines & inside the front covers.

Contact Ms. Rhonda or Ms. Shanavia directly by dialing 251-620-2508.

Currently some of our programs are available remotely and many are archived on the library Facebook page.  If you are sick, please place your items on hold and we will deliver them curbside.

Excerpt from DPL Policy

Although the Library aspires to acquire & maintain Library materials of high educational, artistic, moral, and social value, the basic guidelines for a child's or young person's reading choices (or other Library materials) remain the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Children under the age of 14 should be supervised by a parent at all times.
