The Senior Nutrition Program serves hot, well-balanced meals five days a week. (Note: Seniors must be at least 60 years or older to participate.)
The program's meals are designed to include one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). Menus typically include an entre, two vegetables, bread, desert, milk and juice. The meals are prepared and delivered hot to the center by GA Foods. For seniors on restricted diets, the meals are low fat, low sodium and low in sugar. Complex carbohydrates are stressed.
Meals are also delivered to homebound seniors who live within the city limits of Daphne, and are too ill or incapacitated to come to the center. The Nutrition Program is limited to 33 meals per day, on a first-come, first-served basis and donations are accepted.
