The Porch Project

(Updated: June 2021) The Daphne Public Library is proud to announce the completion of the Porch Project.  The concerted efforts of the City of Daphne, the Friends of the Daphne Library, the Daphne Library Foundation, and the citizens and businesses of Daphne made the Porch Project become a reality!  We look forward to sharing this facility with the public.

The Daphne Public Library is more than just books. We are a full-service community learning center dedicated to informing, educating and enriching the lives of Daphne citizens. We not only provide our community with books, magazines, newspaper, databases, free programs and classes, but we also provide free spaces for study groups & local organizations. As traffic in the library has increased, we have become aware of the need for additional meeting & study spaces. The library also strives to provide cutting edge technology for students of all ages.

Over 156,000 patrons visited the Daphne Public Library in 2019.  The library circulated over 375,000 items and provided meeting & study space for over 6,100 citizens.  As well, over 6,000 library patrons free programs offered by our staff.

Our meeting spaces, with a combined capacity of 86, are no longer enough to serve those meeting with tutors, study groups, training workshops, non-profit and community organizations. The library has enclosed the north patio area to provide three additional spaces. The project, called "The Porch," is a multipurpose area with moveable dividers that will allow the space to be used as one larger or three smaller rooms. Equipped with state-of-the-art interactive technology and built with bricks from past & current fundraising projects, the space will encompass community investment in our efforts to provide the very best services.

The Daphne Library Foundation & the Friends of the Daphne Library contributed one-third of the funds needed to reach the total funds required to complete the project. The City of Daphne contributed another one-third of the needed funds.  The Foundation's public fundraising program contributed the final one-third of the funds from grants, corporate sponsors and public donations. This a truly private/public cooperative project!
