Mission Statement

The mission of the Daphne Public Library is to inform, educate, and culturally enrich the lives of the greatest possible number of citizens of all ages, cultures, and economic backgrounds. The Library collects, organizes, and provides access to educational, informational, recreational and cultural resources to meet the service needs of the community. We are dedicated to the highest standards of ethics and public service, and will strive for the maximum of effectiveness and economy in Library operations. The Library is dedicated to meeting the Standards for Public Library Service in Alabama. The Daphne Public Library Board of Trustees, Director, Staff, and Volunteers will strive for thoroughness, equity, and fairness in serving individuals and organizations throughout the community. We are dedicated to the development of full and equal access to information for all people.


Our services currently include: 2-week circulation of all library materials (books, audiobooks, magazines and DVDs); computer lab; free access to the Internet, wi-fi, and e-books; free computer classes; interlibrary loan; free meeting spaces for nonprofit and civic organizations; assistance with digital devices; scanning, printing and faxing at reasonable rates; exam proctoring; reference and homework help; book clubs for children, teens, and adults; story times for lap babies and Pre-K; Teen Advisory Board; the Friends Book Shop; and special events.

  • Heritage Quest (census, military, and immigration records; 2.3 M genealogy and local history articles; maps, & more)
  • A to Z Maps (over 145,000 free maps worldwide – USGS, bathymetric, NASA, climate, geology, hurricanes, volcanoes, & more)
  • ProQuest Newsstand (full text of over 1300 newspapers, news websites and blogs from leading publishers throughout the world)
  • Artstor (images from some of the world’s leading museums, photo archives, scholars, and artists in one easily-navigated repository)
  • Alabama Virtual Library (Databases include Britannica, ERIC, Gale, Ebsco, Infotrac, Alt Healthwatch, dictionaries, literary criticisms, & more)
