What can be done about mosquitos?

Prevention is the Key.

Mosquitoes, as you know, are well-known nuisances. As much as we would like not having to be bothered with them, there are ways to reduce these "pesty" pests from reproducing. All mosquitoes need water in order to develop. To eliminate breeding areas:

  • Dispose of unused containers, such as, buckets, cans, bottles or jars
  • Keep drains and gutters unclogged
  • Clean and change the water in bird baths and pet watering dishes
  • Change water in vases or pots twice a week
  • Properly discard unused tires
  • Turn wheelbarrows, tubs and wading pools upside down and cover boats when not in use
  • Fill tree holes with sand
  • Keep weeds, vines and grass trimmed - mosquitoes use these shady areas as resting places during hot daylight hours

Prevention is also the key for reducing the annoyance of mosquitoes. Take an active role in reducing your exposure to mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are most active in the early mornings and early evenings at dusk. Stay indoors during these times. If you must be outside, protect yourself with loose fitting, tightly woven clothing and repellents.
