The Friends of the Daphne Public Library

The Friends of the Daphne Library support many children’s programs, including the annual summer reading program, special holiday programs, regular story times, and an annual Spring-into-Reading children’s festival (2008 will be the 9th annual festival), all in an effort to educate, entertain, and enhance cultural knowledge and literacy in our community.  Through the festival, the Library offers an annual poetry contest and an annual art show to local children, Kindergarten through 12th Grade.  The Library has also incorporated the My United States program this year by offering a twelve-week literacy-based American history and civics course to local home school students.

Adult Library programming sponsored by the Friends of the Library includes Jubilee Mornings, a monthly speaking engagement showcasing local authors, as well as artists, photographers, and historians knowledgeable in areas of local interest.  This year, the Library has also implemented several new programs for adults, including the Daphne Book Club (a reading and discussion group), and WinterRead (a winter reading program for adults of all ages).

The Friends of the Library, through their generous donations and hard work, make all of these special programs possible, as well as providing computers, furnishings, and other necessary items for the Library.  This year alone, the Friends purchased new computers for the Young Adult and Children’s areas of the Library.

The Friends raise money through sales of items such as the cookbook, annual Book Sales, and sales from the Book Shop located in the Library.
