Welcome to the Daphne Public Library
The Daphne Library is located in a beautiful 18,000 square-foot
building on Whispering Pines Road and U.S. Highway 98. The
library, which was opened in October, 1996, has designated
areas for pre-schoolers, older children, young adults and
adults. There are study areas, computer booths with Internet
access and a special browsing area with comfortable seating
and current newspapers and magazines.
The community room, which will seat up to 50 people, is available
at no charge to civic organizations and non-profit groups.
Local schools and organizations are encouraged to use the
exhibit areas.
Totaling over 51,480 volumes, the collection includes books,
books-on-tape, videos and CD-Roms. There are large print books
and an extensive collection of children's materials.
Preschool Story Time is every Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:00
a.m., Wednesday from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m., and Thursday from
10:30 to 11:00 a.m. After-School Story & Craft Time for
ages 6-12 is every Thursday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Stories,
crafts, and drama activities are theme-related and are announced
in the Junior Newsletter issued at the first of each month.
Throughout the year there are special programs for children
and adults. Our “Spring into Reading” Children’s
Festival and our Summer Reading Program are favorite annual
events.
The recently implemented Alabama
Virtual Library is an excellent state-wide resource for
a great variety of reference information, including up-to-the
minute magazine and newspaper articles, current encyclopedias
and other reference books and a wealth of on-line resources.
The Library also offers access to HomeworkAlabama.org,
Alabama's Free Live Online Homework Help Service.
