FIRE FIGHTER-This position performs firefighting and rescue operations in a variety of public safety and emergency situations, such as fires, hazardous materials spills, vehicle accidents, and related situations
To qualify, applicants must have a:
•	High school diploma or GED
•	Valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable by the City’s insurance carrier
•	Be at least 20 years old 
•	Pass the Alabama Fire College Candidate Physical Agility Test PRIOR to hire.  See http://www.alabamafirecollege.org/CPAT/cpat.htm website for details on testing dates and locations.
•	Be willing to work non-standard hours, weekends, and holidays
Applicants with the following additional qualifications are preferred:
•	Vocational/technical training in firefighting, hazardous materials, and basic emergency medical care
•	Valid Alabama Fire Fighter I certification
•	Valid Alabama Hazardous Materials Technician certification
•	Valid Alabama Basic EMT certification and/or Paramedic license 
Testing Requirements
•	Applications will be reviewed and the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the testing process which includes:
o	Written, multiple choice test
o	Structured oral interview
